Event Highlights

The session focused on enhancing the participants’ understanding of menstrual health by discussing the biological aspects of menstruation and ways to manage menstrual pain. Although the girls had some basic knowledge, the workshop provided a deeper exploration of the menstrual cycle and effective strategies for managing it.  A key component of the session was addressing and challenging the taboos associated with menstruation. Participants engaged in discussions about cultural practices, daily activities, and dietary restrictions related to menstruation. The session also highlighted environmental concerns associated with traditional sanitary products, such as plastic pads, and introduced more sustainable alternatives like reusable cloth pads and tampons. The girls expressed significant interest in these environmentally friendly options, recognizing their potential to reduce the negative impact on wildlife and the environment.

Resource Distribution

In addition to the educational component, the event featured the distribution of feminine hygiene products. Given that many participants come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the provision of reusable pads and tampons helped alleviate financial burdens and promoted access to safe menstrual products. This aspect of the event was crucial in ensuring that all participants could manage their menstrual health without economic stress.

Impact and Conclusion

The event successfully combined education with practical support, significantly impacting the participants. By addressing menstrual health and hygiene, Upasana not only educated the girls about their bodies but also promoted the use of reusable menstrual products as a sustainable alternative. The discussion on cultural taboos and environmental concerns contributed to a more open and informed dialogue, helping to reduce stigma and encourage healthier practices.

The positive feedback and active engagement from the participants highlighted the effectiveness of the initiative in challenging outdated norms and empowering young girls to manage their menstrual health confidently. The session underscored the importance of health education and feminine hygiene advocacy in promoting gender equality and improving women’s well-being.
