Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Health & Hygiene Education Camp and Free Sanitary Pad Distribution – 28th September 2024

On 28th September 2024, the TORCH Foundation, with the support of Pinkishe Foundation, successfully conducted a Menstrual Health & Hygiene Education Camp at Church Hall, Gerugambakkam, Chennai 128. The event aimed at empowering young girls by providing them with essential knowledge about menstrual health and hygiene.

Educating Girls on Menstrual Health

During the session, the girls were educated on the importance of understanding their menstrual cycle, maintaining hygiene, and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation. The dedicated team from TORCH Foundation, supported by Pinkishe Foundation, covered vital topics including personal hygiene, the importance of using sanitary pads, and dispelling common myths around menstruation. The event encouraged open dialogue, allowing girls to ask questions and clear doubts, fostering a more informed and positive approach toward menstruation.

Free Sanitary Pad Distribution

Following the educational session, a free sanitary pad distribution drive was held, ensuring that the girls had access to basic menstrual hygiene products. This initiative aimed at addressing the issue of accessibility to sanitary pads, which is a significant challenge for many young girls. By providing these essential products, the event not only educated but also helped remove a barrier that often hinders girls from attending school during their periods.

Building Confidence and Breaking Taboos

The Menstrual Health & Hygiene Education Camp was designed to build confidence among young girls and empower them to take charge of their health. The open discussions, myth-busting sessions, and interactive learning approach helped the participants feel comfortable talking about menstruation, a topic often considered taboo in many communities.

Through such impactful initiatives, TORCH Foundation, with the support of Pinkishe Foundation, continues to work towards creating awareness, breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation, and ensuring every girl has access to the knowledge and products she needs for her well-being.
