On July 24, 2024, a significant Menstrual Hygiene Literacy Camp and Free Pad Donation Camp was held at Government High School Rajpura, Haldwani, District Nainital, Uttarakhand, organized by Upasana a passionate volunteer committed to women's menstrual health. This event aimed to empower young girls by addressing critical aspects of menstrual health and providing essential resources.

Fostering a Supportive Learning Environment

The camp brought together 34 girls, creating a supportive and inclusive space. Upasana  facilitated discussions on menstrual hygiene, addressing common misconceptions and promoting best practices for maintaining menstrual health. Participants engaged in menstrual educational sessions covering topics such as the importance of sanitary pads, proper menstrual hygiene management, and the benefits of reusable sanitary pads. They learned about the importance of changing sanitary pads regularly to maintain hygiene and prevent discomfort or health issues. Discussions also included proper disposal methods to ensure environmental sustainability and personal hygiene.

Introducing Reusable Sanitary Pads

Upasana introduced the concept of reusable sanitary pads as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative. She explained how reusable pads can reduce waste and contribute to environmental conservation while providing reliable protection during menstruation. Participants were enthusiastic about adopting these pads, recognizing their dual benefits of cost-effectiveness and environmental impact, thereby fostering a positive shift towards more sustainable menstrual hygiene practices.

Combating Period Poverty and Promoting Health Awareness

Each participant received a comprehensive menstrual hygiene kit. This distribution not only aimed to alleviate period poverty but also emphasized the significance of regular access to menstrual products. By providing these resources, the camp contributed to broader menstrual health awareness initiatives within the community.

Conclusion 

The camp's impact extended beyond mere provision of resources, it fostered a supportive environment where participants learned about proper menstrual health management and the importance of hygiene practices. By engaging in open discussions and debunking myths surrounding menstruation, Upasana  contributed to breaking down stigma and empowering girls to take charge of their menstrual health with confidence. Her leadership and unwavering commitment to girls  menstrual health was evident throughout the camp.
