On July 19th, 2024, at Naranpura GJ School No. 1 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Saasha Gajjar spearheaded another impactful event: a Menstrual Hygiene Literacy Camp coupled with a Free Pads Donation Camp  under the Kali project, this initiative aimed to educate and empower young students about menstrual health, transcending barriers and fostering understanding.
With 52 girls and 50 boys in attendance, Saasha ensured a welcoming environment for all participants additionally by involving boys, she aimed to foster a supportive and informed community. This approach not only breaks barriers but also promotes a more inclusive understanding of menstrual hygiene, emphasizing that awareness and empathy are crucial for both genders.

Heartfelt Encounters

Among the many impactful stories, one stood out prominently. Twelve-year-old Bharti felt incredibly ashamed when she saw illustrations of the female reproductive system. However, after the class, she hugged Saasha, expressing  gratitude for teaching her how to keep herself and her mother safe. It was a touching moment that underscored the importance of such education.

Cultural Sensitivities

In a separate instance, three older girls, dressed in traditional attire and approximately 15 years old, left the class during discussions. Post-session, they confided in Saasha, explaining that such discussions were against their cultural norms. Saasha responded with empathy, acknowledging their perspectives and the sensitivity of the topic.

Shifting Perspectives

11-year-old Sukesh underwent a transformation in his understanding. He openly admitted to lacking prior awareness of the challenges women face. He pledged to maintain his playful banter with female friends but vowed always to respect and support them. His change of heart vividly illustrates how education and open dialogue can foster empathy and encourage respectful behavior towards others.

Addressing Common Questions

During the session, participants raised various inquiries that are often surrounded by embarrassment and misconceptions. Questions included the purpose of bras, whether menstruation affects height growth, and other related topics.Saasha addressed these questions and provided informative answers. These inquiries, typically whispered in embarrassment, found a welcoming environment for open discussion within the supportive setting created by the Pinkishe Foundation. This inclusive atmosphere fostered understanding and effectively dispelled myths surrounding menstrual health.

A Step Towards Inclusivity

This camp was not just about educating girls,it was about fostering a supportive and informed community. By including boys in these discussions, the camp emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and respect. It was a significant step towards breaking down barriers and promoting a more inclusive approach to menstrual hygiene education.

Through heartfelt encounters and candid discussions, the camp made strides in addressing menstrual health openly and inclusively. Saasha Gajjar's leadership under the Kali initiative showcase a steadfast commitment to enhancing women's health and hygiene, aiming to create a lasting influence and nurture a community that is knowledgeable and supportive.
As Pinkishe foundation  continue these efforts, we aim to ensure that every young individual, regardless of gender, feels informed, empowered, and respectful towards menstrual health.
