Breaking Barriers: Essential Menstrual Health Insights

On July 30, 2024, the Menstrual Hygiene Literacy session and Free Pads Donation took place at Government Girls Inter College Rajpura, Haldwani, Nainital, Uttarakhand. Conducted by Upasana, a dedicated volunteer committed to menstrual hygiene and women’s health, the session aimed to enhance menstrual health education and address period poverty by providing sanitary pads to 18 girls.

We have observed that at this age, girls often experience curiosity, confusion, and fear about menstruation. To ease these concerns and foster a better understanding of this natural process, we recognized the importance of offering foundational knowledge and support.

Comprehensive Education on Menstrual Hygiene

This impactful session was dedicated to advancing menstrual hygiene and health education, focusing on crucial topics related to menstrual health and feminine hygiene. The session covered essential aspects of menstrual health, offering an overview of menstrual cycle. It also provided guidance on the correct use of sanitary products and emphasized the importance of regular changes to prevent infections and discomfort. Additionally, the session included insights into how menstrual health impacts overall well-being and practical approaches for effectively managing common menstrual symptoms.

Distribution of Kits

At the end of the session, each participant was given a menstrual hygiene kit. These kits contained sanitary pads to assist the girls during their menstrual cycles. The distribution aimed not only to provide essential resources but also to instill a sense of preparedness and confidence among the attendees.

Additionally, the session sought to address critical issues such as period poverty and promote better feminine care among the participants.

Conclusion

Overall, the event was successful in advancing menstrual hygiene literacy and offering crucial support to young girls.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the participants and supporters whose invaluable contributions helped make this event a success. Together, we are striving for a future where menstruation is well understood, broadly respected, and managed with the highest level of care and dignity.
