In a pivotal effort to enhance menstrual health education and support, a menstrual hygiene literacy camp and free pad donation event took place at Naranpura GJ School No. 4 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on July 22, 2024. This initiative sought to address the critical need for comprehensive menstrual health resources and awareness within the community.
The event was organized by Saasha, an organization committed to improving menstrual health awareness. The camp welcomed 18 girls from the school, who were each provided with a menstrual hygiene kit. This kit was designed to ensure they have the necessary resources for maintaining proper menstrual hygiene.
A key highlight of the camp was the detailed menstrual education provided by our menstrual educator. The educator conducted an in-depth session covering a range of topics essential for menstrual health. This included:
* Understanding Menstrual Cycles: Explaining the biological processes involved and what to expect during menstruation.
* Proper Hygiene Practices: Demonstrating how to use sanitary products correctly and emphasizing the importance of changing them regularly to avoid infections and discomfort.
* Health and Well-being: Discussing how menstrual health impacts overall well-being and how to manage common menstrual symptoms effectively.
At the conclusion of the menstrual educational session, each participant received a menstrual hygiene kit. These kits included sanitary pads to support the girls through their menstrual cycles. The distribution was designed not only to provide immediate resources but also to foster a sense of preparedness and confidence among the attendees.
The primary goal of this camp was to empower young girls with knowledge and resources to manage their menstrual health with confidence. By combining education with practical support, Saasha aims to break down barriers related to menstrual hygiene and promote healthier, more informed communities.
Overall, the event was a success in enhancing menstrual hygiene literacy and providing essential support to young girls in Ahmedabad.

This month, we highlight the inspiring journey of Shakuntala Devi, a mother of two from Mandawali, Delhi, whose life has been marked by struggle and resilience. With her children, aged 12 and 7, attending a local government school, Shakuntala Devi faced immense challenges in covering basic needs such as food, rent, and educational expenses. Her husband, a day labourer, spent his meager earnings on alcohol, leaving Shakuntala Devi solely responsible for her family's welfare.
This was organized by Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT) with the support of Pinkishe Foundation at Kanhaiya Nagar Slum on 1st September, 2024. The event, which hoped to provide knowledge on menstrual health and hygiene while creating awareness and access around feminine hygiene.
