On July 23, 2024, the Menstrual Hygiene Literacy Camp and Free Pads Donation Camp, organized by Saasha, took place at Naranpura GJ School No. 6 in Ahmedabad. Saasha, a dedicated and hardworking volunteer with Pinkishe, has a deep commitment to promoting menstrual hygiene and women’s health. This impactful event was dedicated to advancing menstrual hygiene and health education, focusing on essential topics related to menstrual health and feminine hygiene. By distributing sanitary pads and providing comprehensive health education, the camp aimed to address critical issues such as period poverty and promote feminine care among the attendees.

Engaging the Community and Promoting Awareness

The camp featured enthusiastic participation from both girls and boys, with a total of 27 girls and 40 boys in attendance. The session underscored the importance of menstrual cycle education and health advocacy for everyone, regardless of gender. Notably, the boys' session generated a significantly higher number of questions compared to the girls' session, highlighting a keen interest and an existing gap in menstrual health awareness among boys. By including boys in the discussion, the camp emphasized our belief that menstrual health education should be inclusive, fostering a supportive environment where boys are also informed and can contribute to breaking down stigma and supporting the females in their lives.

Common Questions and Educational Insights

During the camp, common questions posed by attendees included:
* Why does our height stop growing after periods?
* Why do women get breast milk only after childbirth?
* Why do we get pimples?
* Why do we get facial hair?
* Why do we get cramps?
* Why do men get Adam's apple?
Our menstrual educator addressed these queries with patience and clarity, ensuring that all attendees gained a better understanding of these important aspects of menstrual health and feminine hygiene. The educator’s thorough explanations not only answered the questions but also enhanced overall health awareness and understanding of gender health equality.

Notable Impact and Learning Outcomes

One of the standout moments was 13-year-old Anjali, who demonstrated remarkable knowledge about uterine anatomy and menstrual hygiene. Her preparedness highlighted the effectiveness of the camp in delivering women’s health education and fostering a deeper understanding of menstrual health from a young age.

Overall, the camp’s success reflects the positive impact of community health initiatives and social welfare programs in enhancing health education and promoting gender equality. Through these empowerment programs and health campaigns, Saasha  made significant strides in advancing women’s well-being and addressing period poverty, ensuring that menstrual health is managed with care and dignity

Conclusion

This event not only addressed essential issues related to menstrual health and feminine hygiene but also highlighted the importance of inclusive education by involving both girls and boys.
By actively engaging boys in discussions about menstrual hygiene, the camp underscored the value of comprehensive health education for everyone. This approach helps break down stigma and fosters a more supportive and informed community. The enthusiastic participation of boys and their thoughtful questions reflected a significant step towards broader gender health equality and awareness.

Overall, the camp’s impact extends beyond the distribution of sanitary pads and menstrual education. It promotes a culture of understanding and support, contributing to the ongoing effort to combat period poverty and enhance feminine care. Saasha’s commitment to menstrual hygiene and women’s menstrual health has clearly made a lasting difference, paving the way for more inclusive and effective health programs in the future.
