Empowering Young Girls Through Menstrual Hygiene Literacy

On July 15th, Saasha Gajjaer, a passionate volunteer from the Pinkishe Foundation in Ahmedabad, led a transformative Menstrual Hygiene Literacy and Free Pads Donation Camp at Ellisbridge GJ School No. 29 in Rajiv Nagar Shreyas Tekra, Ambavadi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This event epitomized Pinkishe Foundation's mission to eradicate period poverty, normalize menstruation, and promote menstrual literacy.

Educating on Menstrual Hygiene

The initiative aimed to make a significant impact on the lives of young girls by educating them about the importance of menstrual hygiene. Through hands-on sessions, the girls learned practical hygiene practices, and each participant received free sanitary pads. This effort ensured that these young girls have the necessary supplies to manage their menstrual health safely and confidently.

Personal Stories Highlight Cultural Beliefs

During the event, the girls courageously shared their personal stories and experiences with menstruation, revealing the diverse cultural practices and beliefs they navigate. One 12-year-old girl spoke about her family's practice of avoiding mobile phones during menstruation due to beliefs about impurity. Another 13-year-old shared that her family covers their home mandir during menstruation to "hide god" from impurities. These stories highlighted the different ways menstruation is perceived and managed, often influenced by longstanding taboos.

Breaking Taboos Through Education

Through education and open conversations, Pinkishe Foundation is striving to break these taboos and empower girls to handle their menstrual health with dignity and understanding. This event not only raised awareness about menstrual health but also equipped the girls with knowledge and essential supplies, contributing to their overall well-being and empowerment.

Gratitude and Future Vision

We are deeply grateful to all the participants and supporters whose invaluable contributions made this event a success. Together, we are working towards a future where menstruation is understood, respected, and managed with care and dignity.
