We are excited to announce the launch of Project Sakhi, a comprehensive initiative designed to span urban to rural India. The Sakhi program aims to motivate and train schoolteachers and women as Menstrual Health Educators (MHEs) to educate schoolgirls about menstrual health. This milestone marks a significant step in our commitment to breaking the menstruation taboo and fostering a confident, enlightened generation.
At the heart of Project Sakhi is the creation of Sakhi Educators. These dedicated individuals are trained to become Menstrual Health Educators, equipped with the knowledge and resources to teach schoolgirls about menstrual health. By empowering educators, we ensure that accurate and comprehensive information reaches young girls, helping them understand and manage their menstrual health with confidence.
The Sakhi program includes the production of extensive educational materials tailored to different age groups and learning environments. These materials cover a wide range of topics, from basic menstrual health and hygiene practices to more detailed information about reproductive health. By providing these resources, we aim to make learning about menstrual health accessible and engaging for all students.
Workshops are a key component of Project Sakhi. These interactive sessions are designed to educate and engage schoolgirls, providing them with essential information about menstrual health. Additionally, the program includes the provision of menstrual products to ensure that all girls have access to the resources they need. This dual approach of education and provision helps to address both knowledge and practical needs.
Project Sakhi goes beyond education and provision by offering health counselling services to schoolgirls. These services provide a safe space for girls to ask questions and receive guidance on menstrual health issues. Additionally, the program focuses on improving sanitation facilities in schools, ensuring that girls have access to clean and safe environments to manage their menstrual health.
By addressing menstrual health comprehensively, Project Sakhi aims to break the taboo surrounding menstruation. This initiative ensures that girls are well-informed and prepared, fostering a generation of confident and enlightened young women. The impact of this program extends beyond individual health, contributing to broader societal change and empowerment.
